Hudson (part 1)

Did you know that bananas are slightly radioactive?

Hello again!

As I mentioned in my last post, I am doing a collection of stories from a puppy's point of view- all based on Cooper's siblings, one of which, now lives in Dubai and who we are focusing on today.

Over to Hudson!

                                                                *********

"Come on little one, it's your big day!" says Marie, carrying me out of the warm house, into the driveway. I can see mum with her nose to the door, "good luck little pup!" she is saying to me with her big brown eyes, "I'll miss you!"

Eight weeks ago, I was in the pen with mum and my twelve other siblings. But then one by one, they all left me - taken away by their new human families. Since then, it has just been me and mum in the lonely pen with no other pups to fight over a teddy with, or to lay in a big puppy-pancake heap with.

We've been waiting for ages for my new owners to pick me up and take me home to their foreign land. And today is finally that day!

A big car pulls up on the drive and a lady gets out. "Hello Marie! I can't believe that it's finally time to pick up our little bundle of joy!" she says.

"Here he is! It's so good of you to come all this way!" says Marie, holding me out to my new mum.        I clutch my fluffy elephant toy in my mouth and everyone melts and makes a big fuss of me.

They talk about my dog food and something called a 'flight.'

Then Marie gives me a little kiss on the forehead and I am handed over to my new human mum. She wears a pretty floral dress and smells like, hmmm.... lavender? I can cope with that, although I'd rather something like fox poo or maybe raw meat...

When we are in the taxi, the engine starts to rumble and we are off along the bumpy, gravel drive, Marie waving us off. I catch a last glimpse of my Red Setter mum before she vanishes out of sight.

My new daddy is in the back too and I eagerly sniff him.

"Right, to the airport then!" says the taxi driver.

"We're taking you to your new home in Dubai little Hudson!" human mummy says excitedly.

Later, the car comes to a stop and around me there is commotion of cars and people getting out of them with cases on wheels. I wonder where we are, then human daddy answers the question in my head, almost on cue: "we're at the airport Hudson!"

He opens the door and retrieves our luggage, "Thanks for the ride!" he says to the taxi man as he tips his hat at us and drives off.

This time, I'm in daddy's arms as we walk into the airport. It's busy and loud and there's chaos all around me. There is what looks like a fun ride in the middle, a moving thing, carrying everybody's suitcases. I feel a sudden urge to jump onto it... and before I know what I am doing, I clamber out of Daddy's arms and I am charging through the airport towards the suitcase ride.

New Mummy and daddy are breathlessly running after me, squeezing through crowds of people and shouting things like, "Excuse me!" "Sorry!" "We've got a puppy on the loose!"

My paw gets stuck on a piece of sticky pink bubble gum on the floor but nothing will stop me from getting on that ride! I propel myself onto the moving suitcase and notice people laughing and gasping at me, cameras flash in my face and I begin to feel uneasy. I dive inside a big black, half open suitcase for safety. It is snug amongst the socks and pyjamas.

I close my eyes for a nap when suddenly... THUD!  I seem to have fallen into a dark pit.

To be continued....

My favourite part is when the human mum smells of lavender but Hudson would prefer fox poo or raw meat! I wonder what he will get up to in Dubai!
