The Island
Did you know that the
fear of long words is called Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia? (Good luck explaining that to someone if you
have that fear!)
Hi, I’m back!
Anyway, I am here today
because I have had another story idea. I have been reading ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’
by Michael Morpurgo and I have been really enjoying it. It is about a boy whose
boat capsized and he ended up stranded on a desert island with his dog, Stella.
I won’t go into detail because I think you should read it so I don’t want to
spoil it for you.
Anyway, I thought to
myself, ‘I want to write something like that’ so when I got home, I did my
usual- I sat down with my dog Cooper and began to write, so here it is for you!
Wet and shivering, I crawled onto land. Land! At last! I felt the damp sand beneath me as I scrambled to the beach. My boat had capsized and I was now stranded on this island. My heart pounded in my chest, where was I? I thought. I stood up and brushed the sand off of my knees.
Tall palm trees towered
above me, swaying in the warm, gentle breeze, giving me shade from the sun. I glanced
around, it seemed to just be sand and palm trees for miles. My throat was dry
from thirst and I was ravenously hungry. I thought about trying to crack open
one of the large, hairy coconuts that had fallen from the palm trees but I remembered
how hard it was when me and Izire had tried, we had ended up using Dad’s saw
(with no parental supervision which was not particularly wise and had resulted
in a trip to A&E).
As far as I could tell,
the island was not occupied by any humans, only cockatoos and creatures yet to
be discovered! I knew that there were cockatoos because I could hear them squawking
and singing as they soared against the rising sun, it really was a gorgeous sight.
I considered exploring
the island further, after all, there wasn’t much else to do whilst I waited for
Dad and Izire to come and find me, so I ventured on.
I was thrilled to see a
koala hanging off a tree, I reached into my pocket for my polaroid camera but
it must have been carried away by the sea. My face crumpled as I took out my
empty hand. I was all alone (apart from the koala of course)
As I made my way over
to the palm trees I came across something beautiful. A crystal clear, blue
lagoon, the water glittered and shimmered in the blazing Australian sun. It cascaded
down a small waterfall. I felt so elated with excitement. It must have been the
most beautiful place in the world!
I can’t wait for the next part of this story, I was gripped!
