The day I met my best friend
Did you know that in the historical sinking of the Titanic, three dogs survived, one Pekingese and two Pomeranians, all traveling in first class cabins? Hello, I am back! So if you are anything like me then I would imagine you would want to know EVERYTHING about my dog/best friend, Cooper. So I am going to share with you a piece of writing I did about the day we brought him home, so here goes!
It was on a sunny day in April on the Saturday before Easter Sunday.
I was filled to the brim with excitement, almost bursting, I couldn’t believe
it was the day! We had the brand new puppy pen set up in the kitchen and puppy
toys waiting for him.
We all got in the car and set off for Willow Pond Farm. After
about twenty minutes we had arrived at the humongous wooden gates which looked
like should have belonged to a castle. As they opened with an ear splitting
creak, another car came driving out, a man driving and a lady in the back seat
with a tiny puppy on her lap! We rolled down the window, “this is Albie” said
the lady. Albie was a ginger puppy with droopy eyes and the most adorable
floppy ears. He looked almost like a cartoon dog.
It made me feel all jumpy inside with excitement, knowing that
we were about to be getting one of his brothers. We drove down the long gravel
driveway and I gazed out at the fields and fields for miles and miles for the
dogs to run in.
There was a beautiful pond glistening in the sun with a willow
tree draped over it, swaying slightly in the gentle breeze.
A smiling man walked out of the colossal majestic house and guided us in. As we stepped into the room, I was hit by the smell of warm popcorn (the puppies). There was a small pen in the centre of the room full of puppies, clambering over each other and squeaking like little mice. The dog breeder laughed “they have certainly found their voices in the last few days” she said.
In the middle of the pen was a puppy laying down. He had a blue color around his neck and big brown eyes staring into mine like he was saying 'hello family'. I got into the pen and all of the little puppies went mad, jumping over me and using their little teeth to pull my socks off.
I scooped up the puppy in the middle before I could change my mind. He was so tiny, warm and soft in my hands. He seemed perfectly relaxed in my arms, like he had known me for years.
"I think this is Cooper" I said grinning.
